Hi Bob,
Thanks for your response to my question yesterday. I know you are right about the emergency fund. And that it is helpful to be able to give some priority to my health needs as well.
I promise I will not bombard you with updates, but I thought I would let you know that I believe xxxx has responded very well to your urgings in regard to our spiritual health being the priority over all. He has joined me for my morning devotions now both mornings. I know that is just a couple of days, but he has done that before and I have always sensed a disconnect with an attitude of “I am just doing this to please you”. It never lasted before. At the end of today’s devotional time he lead us in prayer and it was clearly a meaningful prayer. I have heard him pray before when the words just seemed to be meaningless, kind of like the “Wah, wah, wah” from the Peanuts cartoon. Today’s prayer was clearly heartfelt and it really touched my heart.
And although I know on the financial end of things we have a long way to go with a lot of bridges to cross I feel more hopeful now than I have in a long time.
At the beginning of the year as I prayed about our situation God gave me a work, just one word. The word was HOPE! I felt He was saying this is your year of hope, put your hope in me and watch me work. There have been some times that it was very hard to believe in the idea of that hope, but now I am seeing Him do what He said He would do!
Thanks for your part!!
With Hope,
xxx

Carolyn,

I can’t express what a blessing you have been to me. Looking back to the day I first sent in my application to Christian Financial Ministries, it felt as if I were facing a mountain. Many times, I had to email you and ask for extra time! And you were always there encouraging and being helpful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! May the Lord bless you, all the people at Christian Financial Ministries, and all the clients who are working with you to get free of the monster of debt and learn how to do better.

To update you on other progress, in January, I refinanced my house to a lower rate for 15 years and had enough extra from that to pay almost all of the balance on the one credit card that I took out of the program. The credit card is now down to a much more manageable size. My mortgage was going to adjust in 2011 to a higher rate, so I was not sure what I was going to do about that. I was panicking, but the bank called me! All I had to do was let this all play out with little or no effort on my part, and I had a new fixed low-rate mortgage for half the length of time, and I’m only paying around $160 more a month. My other mortgage was for 30 years! So the Lord has been blessing me with solutions. As soon as my children get more settled into their lives, I believe I actually will start accumulating rather than expending.

My writing possibilities online have also expanded considerably in the past two months, and I may be earning some extra money doing that. Maybe someday I WILL write the definitive bestseller in some subject! Time will tell.

Again, thank you!

Best regards,

“Please pray for my husband and I, we are in our mid 50’s and we have accumulated quite a bit of debt. We have a small business, and it does bring in some income, but it has slowed down and my husband has been out of work for over a year from another job. My husband (Jeff) has prostate cancer and our insurance and unemployment will be ending soon. Please pray that we can get our bills paid and his cancer healed so that we can be able to survive on our small business if we need to. God Bless You.”

“I have much to be thankful for. My 24 year old son had open heart surgery last fall and he was only hours away from dying by the time we got him to the hospital. What was supposed to have been a 30-45 minute surgery, turned into 1 1/2 hours. I was in the waiting room praying and repeating “God does miracles.” During the surgery the doctors thought that there was something wrong with the monitors and they thought he was gone except he was still breathing. He came out of it and was okay. The doctors told me about the incident and were scratching their heads in amazement. I told him that he had many people praying for him including the church, family and friends. I “Praise God” for that miracle, and many other miracles I have witnessed! He has brought me through, held my hand and helped me keep my sanity through what would seem unbearable circumstances for many people.

“Facing the possible loss of my pick up truck by repossession, my apartment and my business has been failing . I spoke with a good friend at church this morning who has a business also and we discovered something in common, bitterness and anger towards clients and customers, because of having to drop prices during this down economy, and we are both going deeper in debt. Prayers for Gods’ strength to detach from people and apply the principle of working hardily unto God and not man,to focus who we serve than the results. I confess the results of my financial despair is spiritual as you say,I would like prays for that as well as know what guidance or counseling is available. God Bless You and Your Ministry”
